Carolyn’s Corner – The Gift of Chocolate

I love me some good chocolate. I went to bed last night thinking, tomorrow I’m getting chocolate. Excitement rose in me as I thought about going to the store today and purchasing quality chocolate candy. I could taste it as I lay in my bed. Gratefulness soon joined my excitement. Why was I so grateful, excited and happy? Because I have the ability to go to the store and purchase quality chocolate, and I have the physical capability and financial means to do so.
Sometimes we take for granted what seems to be the least important blessings in our lives, until the blessing is challenged, or we lose it. Years ago, I remember wanting a bag of chips or a pack of gum and I could not afford it. I remember how that felt as I walked past the store on my way to work. I was a single parent of two beautiful children, working two jobs, walking and taking the bus to work every day. Sometimes my boss would give me a ride home on his motorcycle, so I wouldn’t have to walk the three miles late at night to get home. I remember.
We become more appreciative of the simplest and seemingly least blessings when we have experienced struggles and possible loss in those areas. Then we become more empathetic to others who are not as fortunate as us.
I’m going to the store today, in a few minutes to purchase quality chocolate candy. I am so grateful that I can drive to the store, purchase good quality chocolate and eat it!
Umm good! I am so excited, happy and grateful for my good quality chocolate candy. With each bite I remember and I thank God for delicious, good quality chocolate. I thank God for His many blessings over the years in my life, even if it’s just a bag of chips or a sunny day. What is your chocolate today? What are you grateful for that you normally don’t think about or you take for granted? Have a delicious chocolate day!
