Lavinia B. Masters struggled for many years emotionally, mentally and psychologically after childhood sexual abuse and a brutal rape at the age of 13 years old. For over 12 years Lavinia has worked to raise awareness about sexual assault, promote and empower victims and advocate for justice by implementing and enforcing laws that protect victims.  Lavinia’s greatest and most fulfilling battle has been working to end the nationwide accumulation of backlogged rape kits through DNA that sit on shelves just as hers did for over 20 years!

Lavinia has been featured in many local, national and international media outlets.  They include the Marie Claire Edition that featured the national rape kit backlog (2010), along with appearances on CNN Nancy Grace, CNN LIVE, CNN w/ TJ Holmes, Primetime Justice w/ Ashleigh Banfield, CNN w/ Fredricka Whitfield, C-SPAN.ORG and Anderson Cooper 360.

Lavinia has worked alongside many organizations such as The Joyful Heart Foundation, RAINN, Deeds Not Words, The US Justice Department, Inqaba Biotec & Bode Technology, Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA), Dallas Police Department Sexual Assault Cold Case Program (SECAP) and that’s just to name a few.  Lavinia has also served with many the battle to end the backlog such as Senator Wendy Davis, Senator John Cornyn, D. A. Craig Watkins, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, State Rep Victoria Neave, State Rep. Ina Minjarez as well as having the honor of serving on the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence w/ Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Rep. Annie Kuster, Patrick Meehan, David Joyce and Emmy Award winning actress, Mariska Hartigay. She also serves as a volunteer on the Speaker Bureau with the Rape Abuse & Incest Network (RAINN) as well with the Denton County Friends of the Family Speakers Bureau and Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).

She is sought after to speak not just as an advocate but as an inspirational speaker, life coach, facilitator and roundtable participant.  Please read her book, “Breathe Again”, to learn more details of how God brought a girl from misery to a woman of ministry.
